La Circumvesuviana is a suburban train that stops in every village at the bottom of the Vesuvio.
What fascinated me in that name, reminiscent to me coming from Napoli, was the possibility to see this “circum” as something abstract going around a mirage, if one considers the fact that for many Neapolitans the Vesuvio is still smoking.
Circumvesuviana does not tell the story of Napoli, there will be no laundry, and no spaghetti!.
The Circumvesuviana is an excuse, a landmark to talk about men and women from the south. But where does the south begin?
We are always North or South of something.
Through imagination, a certain philosophy of life, a tardiness, an image of the sacred and the profane which is specific to Southern people, I wanted to talk about all that is no longer palpable, and has no geographical coordinates.
